ICONLOOP Consortium Launches Smart Farm Big Data Platform
November 25, 2021, Seoul — ICONLOOP (CEO JH Kim), a leading Korean blockchain company, announced the launch of a smart farm big data platform.
The platform was built as part of a program overseen by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Rural Development Administration and managed by the Korea Institute of Planning and Evaluation for Technology in Food, Agriculture and Forestry (iPET). Its purpose is to develop a system for systematically accumulating, managing, and sharing data across the entire seven-year Smart Farm Multi-Ministry Package Innovation Technology Development Program launched in 2021, and to establish the basis for operating it. ICONLOOP formed a consortium with CC Media Service, Hohyun FnC, UBN, and ArtPQ to jointly develop the platform.
With the agricultural population and farmland in continuous decline and the sustainability of agriculture seriously threatened by rising energy and labor costs, efforts to develop smart farm solutions based on Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies and expand them into the field are spreading worldwide. In Korea, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, the Rural Development Administration, and the Ministry of Science and ICT plan to work jointly on the Smart Farm Multi-Ministry Package Innovation Technology Development Program through 2027, seeking new growth drivers and global competitiveness in agriculture and livestock following the first-generation smart farm industrialization technology development program. Against that backdrop, building this platform carries significant weight as the foundation on which the program's success will rest.
In building the platform, ICONLOOP raised the transparency and reliability of the system by enabling data to be stored and managed safely and conveniently through blockchain technology. It applied broof, its blockchain-based certificate service, to the smart farm R&D output management and sharing system component, managing and sharing R&D output information via blockchain to prevent forgery or alteration and keep it safely and conveniently stored.
For the smart farm researcher community support system component, blockchain technology allows research documents to be stored on blockchain as an immutable digital repository. Document hash values and access history are stored on chain, fixing both the time of storage and the document contents so that permanent preservation without forgery or alteration is possible. IDs are also issued to each party on the blockchain network, and using those IDs when documents are stored makes it possible to clearly identify who stored and who accessed them.

Zzeung, ICONLOOP's DID identity verification service providing a range of verifications including real-name, credential, and visit authentication, is broadening its reach — following the application of DID to financial identity verification with Shinhan Bank and NH NongHyup Bank, it now extends to the blockchain-based Gangwon chronic disease integrated management platform and Jeju Safe Code, the island's tourism quarantine system.
