Seoul Metropolitan Government and ICONLOOP Issue Blockchain-Based Seoul Citizen Reporter Press Cards
Because the Seoul Citizen Reporter press card is issued through blockchain, it cannot be forged, altered, or falsely issued, and the card can be readily checked and submitted through Zzeung (https://zzeung.id), a DID identity verification service. Zzeung is a blockchain-based DID identity verification service developed by ICONLOOP. Designated an Innovative Financial Service by the Financial Services Commission (FSC), it has been used for Korea's first DID issuance in the financial sector and for Jeju Safe Code, the island's tourism quarantine system, and it will additionally carry a mobile driver's license through the ICT regulatory sandbox.
Blockchain-based certificates of this kind are already in use across a wide range of fields — public institutions, businesses, and education among them — including letters of appointment for the Seoul Blockchain Governance Group and degree certificates for POSTECH graduates.
"As the importance of protecting personal privacy grows and non-face-to-face environments become more common, interest is rising in trustworthy blockchain technology that also strengthens personal data protection," said ICONLOOP CEO JH Kim. The blockchain-based Seoul Citizen Reporter press cards are issued to citizen reporters selected through the regular 2021 recruitment. Seoul Citizen Reporters produce "Seoul news reported by citizens and delivered to citizens" on subjects such as the city's major policies, facilities, events, and daily-life information, publishing it on Seoul in My Hands, the city's flagship communication portal. Their term runs for one year, from January to December 2021.
