Greetings from the ICONLOOP Team,
Seoul, December 5, 2018 — ICONLOOP has recruited Josh Choi, the former Programme Lead of ITU (International Telecommunication Union) which is a UN specialized agency in the ICT, for a role as Director of Public Affairs.
Josh Choi will be tasked with working on the governance of the ICON Network, as well as growing our ecosystem in the public sector. Bearing in mind three key principles, Decentralization, Interchain, and Contribution, ICON’s governance consists of ‘Community Representatives’ (C-Reps), which represent the interest of each respective community, and ‘Public Representatives’ (P-Reps), which represent the interest of the general ICON public blockchain.
Josh Choi brings to ICON Project his experience working with UN organizations, Korean tech giants and start-ups. Additionally, he will manage partnerships with international organizations and public agencies to find network representatives, as well as expand the impact of blockchain throughout several industry verticals.
Josh Choi graduated from Yonsei University in 1999 and finished his MBA at the University of Geneva in 2008. He has garnered experience as a Marketing Manager at Daum Communications, and specialized in international business and strategy for technological innovation. While working for ITU, a UN specialized agency in the ICT in Geneva, Switzerland, he was the Programme Lead of ‘Smart ABC (AI·Banking·City), oversaw outreach programs as Head of the ITU Visitors’ Center, and authored several analytical reports on the ICT industry as a Policy Analyst.
Specifically, he has successfully designed and organized the 1st edition of the annual ‘Smart ABC Forum’ at the ‘ITU Telecom World’, the world’s largest event for the telecom industry. He presented the Smart City agenda and led in-depth discussions with various stakeholders such as policymakers, C-level industry leaders, accelerators, and academic researchers all around the world.
After returning to Korea in 2018, he was appointed as the Head of Global Cooperation at the Korea Startup Forum, and successfully launched the ‘Digital Economy Forum 2018‘. He has fostered global entrepreneurs for the 4th Industrial Revolution by cooperating with Ecole 42, a French innovative engineering institution, and domestic startups.
Josh Choi said, “We will form pilot projects and partnerships to support international organizations and municipal governments to be selected as the network participants of ICON.” He added, “We will strive to expand the public ecosystem of the ICON Network, and align with ICONLOOP’s rapid growth in business development.”
JH Kim, CEO of ICONLOOP and council member of the ICON Foundation said, “ICON aims to secure various international institutions and companies as network representatives, and collect diverse opinions from ecosystem participants with this recruitment.” He added, “ICON will accelerate our vision to ‘hyperconnect the world’, connecting real life with the crypto world, and pushing mass-adoption of blockchain technology through global partnerships.”
